What the experts say.

Doctor with a stethoscope in the hands and hospital background.

"Every cell in the body needs iron. Even though the hemoglobin may be at a level sufficient to deliver oxygen to the tissues, you need iron for other things—for example, in your muscles and brain cells."

Dr. Reed E. Drews
Associate professor of medicine at Harvard-affiliated Beth Israel-Deaconess Medical Center

"The major reason we need iron is that it helps to transport oxygen throughout the body. If you're not getting sufficient oxygen in the body, you're going to become fatigued"

Paul Thomas, EdD, RD
Scientific consultant to the National Institutes of Health, Office of Dietary Supplements

"Iron is also necessary to maintain healthy cells, skin, hair, and nails."

Elaine Chottiner, MD
Clinical assistant professor and director of General Hematology Clinics at the University of Michigan Medical Center

What is Iron?

Iron is an important nutrient that helps in oxygen transport. It helps in the transportation of red blood cells from the lungs to other tissue of the body. Iron is naturally available in food.Suggest to expound a bit to make more sense: The typical adult —male or female —stores between 1–3 grams of iron in their body. Simultaneously, about 1mgis lost daily due to the shedding of the skin and mucosal surfaces like that lining your gut. Women who menstruate need more iron. This is because blood contains about 70% of your body’s iron.

Women who lose a lot of blood during their monthly period(heavy periods)are at higher risk of iron deficiency anemia and may need to take iron supplements.

Speak to a doctor or registered dietitian for more advice.

Benefits of Iron:

1. Treat Anemia. Iron helps in treating anemia, which is the most common nutritional deficiency. Anemia is due to the low level of hemoglobin in the blood.  2. Increase hemoglobin. The main function of iron is to form hemoglobin necessary for oxygen transport in the body, and deficiency is more common in women due to menstrual blood loss and causes iron-deficiency anemia. 3. Improve immunity. Iron improves immunity in chronic infection and healing processes by forming more hemoglobin, which provides oxygen to damaged cells and tissues.  4. Improves muscle metabolism. Iron helps in muscle metabolism by providing oxygen to the muscle during muscle contraction. 5. Reducing bruises. Iron deficiency may easily cause bruises, so hemoglobin helps in platelets’ production and function, which controls blood clotting. 1

Recommendations to counter Iron deficiency.

  • Dietary habit change
  • Improves lifestyle

Iron Spray format.

It is readily absorbed in the mouth via vein networks and it is the fastest way of absorption. It is more effective than the oral route of administration. It is easy to carry anywhere. It helps to treat anemia and provide immunity to chronically ill patients. At the same time, it decreases the systemic side effects e.g nausea, vomiting, etc. 3
