Lysozymes.

They are naturally occurring enzymes and act as antimicrobial agents. The main production areas of lysozymes are body secretions such as milk, tears, and saliva. They strengthen the immune system by tearing primary components of the bacterial cell wall, i.e. peptidoglycan, which results in the death and lysis of bacteria (Saurabh & Sahoo, 2008). 2

Iron.

Iron acts as a support system for immune cells such as lymphocytes. It helps in their maturation and their effect on host and pathogen attacks. Studies reveal that iron deficiency leads to an inefficient immune system (Cherayil, 2011). 1

Vitamin A.

Vitamin A helps in the maturation of immune cells and enhances immune system efficiency. Vitamin A affects pathogens and bacteria because it competes with them for living space and food, and ultimately kills pathogens and bacteria. It increases the body's immunity towards various types of cancer, such as lung, skin, and breast cancer.

Vitamin B.

Vitamin B complexes are essential for enhancing immunity. They (especially B6 complex) strengthen the immunity by transporting oxygen throughout the body and making more red blood cells. They help keep the body healthy and kill pathogens to boost the immune system (Alpert, 2017).

Vitamin C.

The role of vitamin C in the immune system is a debate, but it helps in the growth of B-cells and T-cells and heals wounds to reduce pathogen attacks.

Vitamin D.

Other than bone and calcium homeostasis, vitamin D also helps in the immune system. According to research, vitamin D possesses antimicrobial activity and disrupts bacterial cell membranes, ultimately bacterial degradation. That's how all these components enhance the immune system (Alpert, 2017). 3
